When people would look a 150 years back in the year 2170. What about this period would make them proud?
A slave coming out of slavery?
An African American becoming CEO?
A female becoming prime minister?
While important, all these things are no longer as grave as they used to be.
In the modern world, we have started seeing dark colored people become immensely loved e.g. Oprah Winfrey, we have seen Women become prime ministers e.g. Benazir Bhutto, and slavery as an institution has been abolished.
The group which is most marginalized is none of these.
It is the Intersex who are discriminated against every day.
We do not have intersex students in our universities. Does that mean there are no intersex aged between 18-24 in Karachi?
Obviously there are. However, we as a society have not embraced them.
Let's make the people of year 2170 be proud of us. Let's not discriminate against intersex people. Let's start by making a bucket list. And on that bucket list let's add "Making an intersex friend". Challenge accepted?
